We have met the enemy and it is us.
It is a lot easier to blame others but I have to believe that the increased violence is due to a feeling of helplessness causing violent behavior.
Why does such helplessness lead to violence?
There are big changes in today’s society. Many who have played by societies rules haven’t been able to adapt to the new rules.
Their hate is directed towards immigrants and other with whom they have little face to face, name experience. Immigrants do what is new. They do what others don’t want to do. They have stronger family, church and community support systems. That is one of the things which Americans increasingly lack, multiple support systems.
One of the unsigned benefits of being a union member was that your child would always have a job with the union or the union’s companies. This is busted and it’s a bad thing.
Immigrants also are smaller groups, They are usually a minority in their neighborhoods. They work hard. They have to.
They do what everyone else does to survive. So the biggest change happens from those who have time to make change and aren’t totally consumed with survival. Both Mao and Marx and Engels were all middle class or better.
Regardless of where you are in the survival food chain, your imagination isn’t tethered to reality, think of your life as a product of your imagination. Dream bigger, one small step at a time.
